We are looking for motivated students on VA education benefits who are interested in gaining firsthand experience in federal constituent services. Detailed information regarding the role and the application process is provided below:

We are currently seeking a qualified student to join us for Fall and Spring 2026/2027 semesters and commit to working in our Manhattan office.

Internship Overview
The Veterans Affairs Work-Study intern will support constituents seeking assistance with military and veteran affairs. Key responsibilities include:

  • Liaise with constituents to prepare military and veteran affairs related files for casework review
  • Distribute general information regarding benefits and services available to veterans
  • Identify military and veteran affairs casework, procedural history, and applicable rules/laws
  • Draft correspondence and process veteran-related files for agency review
  • Correspond with constituents who are veterans or active service members during pendency of casework
  • Request military and veteran affairs casework updates as scheduled
  • Maintain and organize portfolio-related files
  • Distribute information to other offices about VA and non-VA benefits

  • Is this internship paid?
    • Yes. VA work-study interns are paid through the Department of Veterans Affairs Work-Study Program at a rate of $16.50/hour.
  • How long is this internship?
    • Our office is hiring a VA work-study intern for the 2026/2027 academic year (two semesters, starting in the fall and ending in the spring).
  • Who can apply for this internship?
    • Students that have VA education benefits (ex: GI Bill) who meet these DVA requirements:
  • How much time is the intern expected to work?
    • Per VA policy you can’t work more hours total than 25 times the number of weeks in your enrollment period.
  • You’re enrolled at least 3/4-time in a college degree, vocational school, or professional program, and
  • You can finish the work-study contract while you still qualify for education benefits, and
  • You’re using an approved VA education benefits program to pay for your education or training
