About the Position

We’re excited to officially launch the Office of the Insurance Commissioner’s Internship Program—and we’re looking for motivated college students and recent graduates interested in legal and regulatory careers to join our Legal Affairs Division!

The Administrative Intern I provides administrative, clerical, and project-based support within the Legal Affairs Division, working closely with attorneys, investigators, and paralegal staff.

This internship offers hands-on experience in a legal and regulatory environment where interns contribute to work that protects consumers and ensures compliance with Washington State insurance laws. The Legal Affairs Division serves as a key partner in advancing regulatory excellence by investigating complaints, enforcing state insurance laws, and providing legal guidance across the agency.

In this role, interns may assist with legal research, document preparation, and case file organization, while supporting the review and analysis of complaints and potential violations of state law (including RCWs and WACs). Interns may also gain exposure to enforcement actions, regulatory compliance processes, and the interpretation and application of laws affecting the insurance industry.

Additionally, interns may support work related to legislative analysis, rulemaking, and policy implementation—providing a unique opportunity to see how laws are developed, interpreted, and enforced in a public sector setting.

This position serves as a valuable entry point for individuals interested in careers in law, public policy, regulatory affairs, or government service.

This recruitment may be used to establish a qualified pool of candidates for Administrative Intern vacancies in the next sixty days.

This is a non-perm/ temporary position lasting 12 weeks, with an expected schedule of 20-25 hours per week.

This is a Washington General Service position. The hourly range for this position is $19.64 – $23.67.
