The CDF Freedom Schools Servant Leader Intern (SLI) is a summer position, typically filled by college students, focused on mentoring, supervising, and teaching K-12 scholars using a literacy-rich curriculum. SLIs facilitate classroom activities, manage behavior, foster a positive, culturally respectful environment, and lead afternoon activities like field trips and swimming.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
- Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model and mentor for scholars, often working with a ratio of 1 intern to 10 scholars.
- Curriculum Delivery: Implement the Integrated Reading Curriculum (IRC), which is designed to boost literacy skills and promote a love of reading.
- Activity Leadership: Plan and lead afternoon activities, including field trips, team-building exercises, and community service projects.
- Behavior Management: Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment using conflict resolution and positive discipline techniques.
- Training & Certification: Participate in compulsory training (often at CDF Haley Farm) and maintain professional standards.
- Qualifications: At least 18 years old, completed at least one year of undergraduate studies, and authorized to work in the U.S..
- Commitment: Full-time, high-energy, 6-8 week summer commitment.
